Q:You said in one of your videos you're looking for piercings to do in your videos. I'm interested in coming to visit you guys cuz your like a god to me, haha. I pierce up in Mt. Pleasant, 'bout an hour north of Lansing. Are there any specific ones you've been wanting to do?

zpiercer

thank you for your kind words and support! Hate to say it, but priority is going to go to genital work, then nipples, then odd ear stuff. I’m really pretty open provided we use cool jewelry (not just basics…you know, fancy threaded ends and whatnot) and we haven’t done the piercing as a tutorial before- I’m still going to do PANGEA PIERCING videos, just as tutorials and information. We’re going to do stretching, aftercare, tray setup and asepsis, studio layout, how to photograph piercings, and, of course, piercings of all manner. We’ve already done nostril and daith…hell, let’s set something up!

Q:what type of organic material would you guys recommend for being the most durable for stretched ears? i know that wood should not get wet or else it will start to crack and that stone can be heavy and should not be worn in a shower but i was wondering about materials like bone? and is it true that acrylic is bad for your ears?

Anonymous

Well, here’s a really good question. Durability in organic materials that will work in piercings is often a question of how the piece is cared for. We take a pretty cautious approach- I would say you shouldn’t wear your quality organics in the shower or while doing activities that can get them damaged, like riding bikes, running, mosh pit,and the like….wear some lightweight titanium or Kaos Softwear eyelets that can be easily replaced. It’s not unusual to have a set of wood or stone pieces go over $100, and materials like amber, rarer woods from the better makers, semiprecious stone, fossils, mammoth ivory, and antler can easily go hundreds of dollars, so you should certainly protect an investment with proper care! Don’t leave them in direct sunlight (unless you’re wearing them of course), keep them dry, and once a month or so rub them down with a soft cloth and jojoba oil. Some woods after a few years may have the grain raise slightly- I believe the solution is to lightly sand it down with 600 grit, then 800, then 1200, then 2000 (it’s about like buffing a car’s clear coat).

Now as far as acrylics, I know many people HAVE worn it, BUT it’s not a good material. It does degrade over time, and there are much better materials to use (i.e. glass). Glass does everything except not shatter when dropped, but the relative low cost of glass more than makes up for it when you factor in that quality glass is non reactive, extremely smooth, autoclavable, non porous, and can be safely stretched with. We plan on a video about what not to wear in your ears, and you can bet we will be going over the topic. Thanks for your question!

Q:So I have a horizontal labret, and have had it for about 2 years. Wat would happen if I also got a vertical labret?

theperksofbeingnealey

I wouldn’t know. I wouldn’t do a “horizontal labret” on someone…or tongue surface piercings, or anchors in odd spots. I’m very cautious in my work, and shy away from anything that would need plastics. I don’t do surface piercings in high motion areas or indeed anywhere I haven’t observed a high degree of success (think of a nape versus a wrist). Not knocking it, I’m just saying I really have no idea. I would guess that there wouldn’t be much tissue to work with given what you already have, but I also say “no big deal”…if anything, give it a shot and IF it looks like it isn’t doing well, abandon it and chalk it up to experience. We learn as much from failed experiments as we do from successful ones, and if no one ever tried anything new, we would never move forward! Thanks for the question.
